WASHINGTON TWP, Mich. — Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC’s run in the NISA Pro Cup came to an end in the semifinals with a 2-0 defeat to the Los Angeles Force.
Hailstorm managed three shots, one on target, in a first half that was quiet save for a rough collision between Hailstorm midfielder Carlos Valenzuela and Force goalkeeper Mark Gamez just before the halftime whistle. The match was scoreless at the break.
Force found the breakthrough in the 52nd minute when Hailstorm defender Christian Wagelin fouled Force forward Enzo Mauriz in the penalty area and Mauriz converted from the spot to give his team a 1-0 advantage.
The game was put out of reach in the 87th minute when Force midfielder Jose Montes de Oca found himself one-on-one with Hailstorm keeper Brady Rimple and slotted home for the 2-0 lead.
Hailstorm could not fight back in the time remaining and were eliminated from the NISA Pro Cup one match shy of the final.
