WINDSOR, Colo. – Westminster, Colo. native Trevor Amann, a forward who starred for Colorado School of Mines before earning All-America honors at Midwestern State University, has signed with Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC, pending league and federation approval.
Amann joins former Greenville Triumph SC striker Lachlan McLean to become Hailstorm FC’s second forward signed ahead of the club’s inaugural season in USL League One.
“As soon as I got this job, I wanted to identify the best local talent,” said Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC head coach Éamon Zayed. “Trevor immediately came onto my radar and I’ve been chasing him ever since, so I’m ecstatic to get him signed on. He is a proper number nine and a real goal scorer who I believe will grow and develop so much within our organization.
“He’s a local Colorado lad from literally down the road. We want to give local players from Colorado, and in particular Northern Colorado, the opportunity to play pro soccer at really high level. That’s what USL League One is about. We are building a really exciting platform with the best facilities around that we hope will attract the top players in Colorado and give them a realistic chance to excel in the professional soccer world.”
Amann played for the MSU Mustangs from 2019–21. In his graduate season in 2021, while completing his mathematics degree, Amann scored 16 goals and 38 points and was named to the Division 2 Conference Commissioners Association All-America first team and the United Soccer Coaches All-America second team. His 1.90 points per game were good for 12th in the entire NCAA, while his goals and points were both the seventh-best marks in NCAA Division II.
Amann was named the Lone Star Conference’s Player of the Year and Forward of the Year in 2021 and 2020, and in 2020 he also earned LSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll accolades. During his three years at MSU, Amann scored 28 goals and added 10 assists in 51 appearances (47 starts).
Immediately prior to enrolling at MSU, Amann spent the 2018 season playing with Detroit City FC in the National Premier Soccer League. That season, Detroit advanced to the second round of the US Open Cup, where they were defeated by USL Championship club FC Cincinnati (FC Cincinnati went on to join Major League Soccer the following year).
In two years at the Colorado School of Mines, Amann scored 21 goals, including two hat-tricks, and earned United Soccer Coaches second-team All-South Central Region (2017), first-team All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (2016 and 2017), D2CCA second-team All-South Central Region (2016), and RMAC Freshman of the Year (2016) honors.
“I’m extremely excited for the opportunity to be a part of the inaugural team,” said Amann. “It’s even more special for me personally because I get to do it in front of my family. Being in Colorado makes it easier for my friends and family to come out and support the team. I’m excited to get going, and I can’t wait to start.”
Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC will make its USL League One debut on April 9 with a match against Richmond Kickers. The club’s first home match will be almost two months later, when they host North Carolina FC on June 8.
Hailstorm FC will play its home matches in the 6,500-seat main stadium of the Future Legends Complex, the premier destination for sports and events in Northern Colorado. Opening in 2022, the 118-acre complex will feature a professional stadium, multiple baseball diamonds and multi-purpose fields, an indoor sports arena, lodging, and retail; and will host guests for major sports tournaments, events, leagues, and more.
