WINDSOR, Colo. – After his wondergoal on Wednesday night, Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC’s Irvin Parra has been nominated for the USL League One Fan’s Choice Goal of the Week for Week 11. The goal came in the 37th minute against North Carolina FC on June 8 to equalize the match at 1-1.This is Northern Colorado’s third nomination for this award this season. Parra was nominated back in Week 5 and Stefan Lukic was nominated a week later in Week 6.
The play on Parra’s goal began with an interception by Nortei Nortey, giving the Hailstorm a chance to break forward with some numbers. After playing a one-two pass with Ethan Vanacore-Decker, Nortey got the ball out wide for Trevor Amann. Amann then picked out Parra with a cross that Parra controlled with his chest before volleying it over a diving Will Pulisic.
The goal was featured on ESPN’s SportCenter Top Plays for June 8. It was the No. 2 play of the day on the show. It was Parra’s team-leading fourth goal of the season, a mark that puts him in the top five goal scorers in USL League One.
Fan voting is now open to determine the winner. Fans have until 10:00 a.m. MDT on June 16 to vote for the award.
