Northern Colorado look to continue winning ways against Charlotte
WINDSOR, Colo. – After having won 2-1 and lost 2-1 to the Charlotte Independence on the road this season, it is time for the home fixture of the season series for the Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC.
The main man to watch for Charlotte is Tresor Mbuyu. In the two meetings with Northern Colorado, Mbuyu has played a part in all three of his side’s goals, scoring two and assisting the other. He has six goals and two assists total on the season, seeming to save his best for when lining up against the Hailstorm.
The goalkeeping situation in Charlotte has been interesting this season. They have started five different keepers in their 15 league matches, with Adrián Zendejas starting eight of those. Zendejas also started both of the previous contests with Northern Colorado and each of Charlotte’s most recent two matches. He has kept two clean sheets in those eight matches and been responsible for 18 saves.
As captain, Rob Cornwall has been a centerpiece of the Hailstorm, starting every game he has been able to this season. The Irishman has scored twice and assisted twice from his center back role in all competitions this year. Cornwall has worked hard on the defensive end to make 44 clearances, winning 74 percent of his aerial duels, and making 11 interceptions.
Further up the pitch for Northern Colorado sits Lachlan McLean. McLean has been involved in six goals this season for the Hailstorm, scoring two and assisting four in all competitions. Placing him second on the team in goals plus assists, behind Irvin Parra with nine.
Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. MDT at Canvas Stadium in Fort Collins, Colorado. Expect the temperature to be in the mid-90s at kickoff with wind in the 10 mph range. The game, as with all USL League One games this season, will be broadcast on ESPN+.
