Storms clash in Severance on Saturday.
WINDSOR, Colo. – For the second time this season, South Georgia Tormenta FC are coming to Colorado to face Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC. Tormenta entered this week in third-place in the USL League One standings. Northern Colorado, with help from other matches around the league and a win over Tormenta, can end the week in the USL League One playoff picture.
Pablo Jara has been a solid number one for South Georgia to this point in the season. The Chilean goalkeeper has kept four clean sheets, with a save percentage nearing 60 percent in 2022. Three of those four clean sheets were back in April and early May, with the team leaking goals in of late.
Tormenta have found a top scorer this season in Kazaiah Sterling. Sterling played his youth career at Tottenham Hotspur, even playing in a Champions League match for the club. He has scored six goals this season, at a rate of one every 143.8 minutes. The Englishman has also added four assists in his 13 games for the club.
Irvin Parra has been a consistent man up front for the Hailstorm this season. With eight goals and three assists, he has more goal contributions than any other Hailstorm player. Parra averages a contribution once every 128 minutes. He has been a presence in duels and aerial duels winning nearly 50% of each and more total duels won than all other Northern Colorado players.
The last time South Georgia came to Colorado saw a dramatic ending. Nine minutes into stoppage time, Nortei Nortey was able to get his foot through a ball and put a shot up from the inside of the box. Through a deflection the ball ended up bouncing past Jara and leveling the score to steal a point at the death.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. MDT at Severance High School in Severance, Colorado. Expect there to be scattered thunderstorms during the match. The game, as with all USL League One games this season, will be broadcast on ESPN+.
The future home of Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC, 118-acre Future Legends Complex will feature 6,500-seat TicketSmarter Stadium, 2,500-seat Future Legends Field, multiple baseball diamonds, and multi-purpose fields, an indoor sports arena, lodging, and retail; and will host guests for major sports tournaments, events, leagues, and more.
