WINDSOR, Colo. – Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC defenders Arthur Rogers and Brecc Evans have landed themselves on the USL League One Team of the Week for Week 19. Northern Colorado lost to the Richmond Kickers on Tuesday, but bounced back with a win on Saturday against the South Georgia Tormenta FC.
Both Rogers and Evans contributed in big ways for Northern Colorado in the 2-0 win over South Georgia. First, as the game neared the hour mark, Rogers distributed a ball into the box for Irvin Parra, who tried to flick the ball on for Jackson Dietrich but the flick was knocked away by a Tormenta defender. However, the defender took the ball directly into the path of Rogers inside the six yard box and the diving keeper wasn’t able to stop the shot. Rogers notched his first goal of the year to make it 1-0.
Twenty minutes later, the duo of Evans and Rogers linked up on a corner kick. Rogers crossed the corner kick into the middle of the box, right in front of the penalty spot. Evans was able to get his head on the ball and send it to the back post with no attempt to stop it from the keeper. Only a jumping defender came close to the header, but it wasn’t enough to keep Evans from doubling the lead for the Hailstorm and securing the three points.
Both contributed greatly on the defensive end as well. Rogers had two tackles, three clearances, one blocked shot, and two interceptions. Evans added another tackle, three clearances, and two interceptions to help preserve the clean sheet.
Rogers is the first Hailstorm player this season to make five Teams of the Week, all coming in the last seven weeks. Evans has now added his fourth Team of the Week, also within the last seven weeks.
The other players to make Team of the Week this season are:
Rob Cornwall: Week 8, Week 11, Week 12
