WINDSOR, Colo. – Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC announced today that they have agreed to a new two-year contract with defender Brecc Evans.
“We’re delighted to have [Brecc] sign a multi-year deal,” Head Coach Eamon Zayed said. “We want players that want to be here, not just for the short term but in the long term.”
Evans was a key piece of the Hailstorm backline in their inaugural season. The Culver City, Calif. native played in and started in 28 of the team’s 30 League One matches in 2022. In those 28 matches, Evans scored four goals, including his first-ever professional goal and first professional brace.
Evans also played in the team’s three Open Cup matches against USL Championship side Colorado Springs Switchbacks, MLS side Real Salt Lake and fellow USL League One side Union Omaha.
He showed no shortage of charisma and character – as a leader on the field and in the locker room.
“He’s a fantastic personality to have,” Zayed said. “Brecc’s somebody who’s come in and sees the vision of the club. He sees what we’re trying to do on and off the field. He’s a winner. He’s here to win things and help the club grow.”
Evans said he had his most successful year individually in 2022 and humbly credits most of that success to his team and teammates.
He scored his first professional goal – the game-winner that would see the match end in a 2-1 win against Chattanooga – on June 30. Evans scored again on August 6 in a key game against South Georgia, helping the Hailstorm take down top-of-the-table Tormenta, 2-0. He then had a brace in a rainy matchup with Union Omaha on September 21, helping his side to a 2-1 win.
Evans finished the season sixth in USL League One in clearances with 106 and ninth in passes with 1,408. In 2,520 total minutes played, he won 24 tackles, made eight blocks and 42 interceptions, completed 1,114 successful passes and had seven shots on target. He is looking to build on that success as he returns for two more seasons in Northern Colorado.
“It’s a really exciting opportunity to be returning to the Hailstorm for the next two years,” Evans said. “I hope to build on what we worked for last year and translate that into wins during the season and a successful playoff run.”
