WINDSOR, Colo. – The Northern Colorado Hailstorm announced today the club has signed midfielder Enock Kwakwa for the upcoming season, pending league and federation approval.
In head coach Eamon Zayed’s mind, the Man City youth product comes to the club to fulfill a very specific role. And he’s confident the Ghanaian will get it done.
“We wanted to get a natural number six, a defensive central midfielder. That will give us protection and allow our fullbacks to push on. Enock gives us that,” Zayed said. “He’s really experienced, and I see him as a big piece in a hopefully successful year.”
Seven successful years in Sweden’s top two divisions provide Kwakwa almost all that experience. He helped his team to a top-four finish four years in a row.
The defensive-minded mid did score a couple goals and earn three assists, all of which came with Falkenberg. In 2017, he scored the club’s first goal of the season. Kwakwa called FFF home for his first four years in Sweden before joining Jonkoping for the final three.
Then, last season, he played his only stateside season so far. With USL Championship side Charleston Battery, Kwakwa started 14 of his 19 matches. He doubled his career goal total and logged another assist, adding them all during a terrific three-game stretch, from July 16 to 30.
All that versatility and veteran savvy makes the midfielder’s new manager feel “really lucky and excited to bring Enock in.”
