WINDSOR, Colo. – Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC announced today the re-signing of midfielder Nortei Nortey, pending league and federation approval.
In his first year with the club, the Chelsea FC academy grad garnered some of the best numbers of his career.
He played a career-best 2,325 minutes. And along with his usual showcase of box-to-box defense and build-up, Nortey netted two goals.
The first one delivered a dramatic finish, at the same time helping the Londoner collect a League One Team of the Week honor. He scored an equalizer in the ninth minute of extra time on June 11 to steal a stoppage time point against eventual league champion South Georgia.
His manager’s mighty glad to have a key member of his squad for a second season.
“I’m really happy to have Nortei back. He really came into his own last season,” head coach Eamon Zayed said. “He proved himself to be one of the best number 8’s in the league.”
Pro season number eight is up next for the 28-year-old. He has high expectations for it as do his mates and his manager.
“I expect Nortei to build upon that success,” Zayed said. “I think he can have a massive year.”
The club’s potential this year is also massive. It’s a big reason Nortey returned to NoCo.
“Everyone that’s come and joined us, and everyone from last year, has the same prize in their head,” he said. “It’s the championship. Hopefully we can bring that to the people of Northern Colorado.”
