WINDSOR, Colo. — For the second straight season, Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC will take on a foe from Major League Soccer in the third round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, this time an in-state rival.
Hailstorm FC will face the Colorado Rapids at 5 p.m. on April 26 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colo. It will be the first meeting between the two clubs.
“I’ve gone to their games as a little kid, so it’ll be quite the experience to step out on the field as a player,” Hailstorm midfielder Destan Norman, a native of Fort Collins, said.
Northern Colorado earned a berth in the third round with a thrilling 3-1 win after extra time against USL Championship side Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC. Trevor Amann equalized in the 88th minute and Donald Benamna and Marky Hernández scored in extra time to seal the victory.
Information on tickets will be released by the Rapids at a later date.
