WINDSOR, Colo. — Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC will take the pitch at Future Legends Field for the first time at 4 p.m Saturday against Central Valley Fuego FC.
“I don’t think anybody is as excited as I am,” Hailstorm head coach Éamon Zayed said. “I came here in August 2021 and just to see the development since then is phenomenal.”
Fuego snapped a four-game losing streak in their last match with a 3-2 win over South Georgia Tormenta FC thanks to goals from Ronald Alexis Cerritos, Othoniel Arce, and Zahir Vazquez, who scored the stoppage time winner.
Prior to their three-goal outburst against Tormenta, Fuego had scored just two goals this season with Cerritos scoring in a 1-0 win over Chattanooga and Arce tallying in a 1-1 draw with One Knoxville SC.
“They’ve just come off a win against good opposition in Tormenta. They’re going to be happy and hungry to keep that going,” Hailstorm FC defender Arthur Rogers said.
Hailstorm FC have won each of their last two games, a 2-1 victory over One Knoxville SC and a 2-0 win at Forward Madison FC. Forward Trevor Amann scored three goals and added an assist in those two games, and his five goals for the season have him tied for second in USL League One.
“You can see when he’s getting chances he believes he’s going to put it in the back of the net,” Rogers said. “When you have a striker like that you just want to feed him and give him more chances to score.”
Amann and the rest of the Hailstorm squad will look to keep the good times rolling on their home turf on Saturday.
“It’s just fantastic to have our home and we can actually finally call it our home,” Zayed said.
