WINDSOR, Colo. — Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC extended their unbeaten run to five with a 2-0 win over the Richmond Kickers Wednesday night at Future Legends Field.
It was Hailstorm FC’s (5-1-3, 18 points) first win over Richmond (4-3-5, 17 points) in club history and their second win in two at their new home field.
“It feels great to be home,” Hailstorm FC head coach Éamon Zayed said. “I know I said it against Fuego and it just felt even better tonight.”
Hailstorm opened the scoring in the 14th minute when a long diagonal ball from Leo Folla found Valentín Sabella alone in the Richmond area and he fired home for his first goal of the season.
“As soon as I made that run he saw me, it was perfectly clipped, and all I had to do was just finish it,” Sabella said.
From that point on, Northern Colorado controlled the game, limiting the Kickers to just six shots as goalkeeper Lalo Delgado tallied his fifth clean sheet of the season.
“I thought tonight was perhaps our best performance of the year,” Zayed said.
Hailstorm sealed the win in the 84th minute when Trevor Amann scored his eighth goal of the season, adding to his league in the USL League One Golden Boot race and giving his team a 2-0 lead.
“I just keep trying to put myself in the best opportunities,” Amann said. “I’ve been fortunate that a lot of them have been finding the back of the net this year.”
Northern Colorado will look to continue moving up the league table when they are back in action Saturday against One Knoxville SC at Future Legends Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
