WINDSOR, Colo. — Despite having three times as many shots as their opponents, Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC were held to a 0-0 draw by One Knoxville SC Saturday at Future Legends Field.
“We definitely created enough chances to win that game, for sure,” Hailstorm midfielder Jackson Dietrich said.
Hailstorm started to take some control in the middle portion of the first half as both Trevor Amann and Stefan Lukic hit shots just wide of the post. That said, neither team could convert in a cagey first half and the teams went into halftime scoreless.
“First half we were a little bit sluggish,” Hailstorm FC head coach Éamon Zayed said. “Maybe that’s the effect of the third game in a week.”
Northern Colorado had a chance to take the lead in the 52nd minute when Jackson Dietrich was fouled in the area, but Amann’s penalty was saved by Knoxville keeper Sean Lewis.
“That’s two penalties from three we’ve missed this year, not great,” Zayed said.
Hailstorm had 12 shots in the match to just four for Knoxville, earning them their sixth clean sheet of the season and extending their unbeaten run to six games, but could not find the goal that would give them the win.
“A clean sheet is always massive,” Hailstorm midfielder Arthur Rogers. “They move the ball very well, so to keep them from scoring is a very good thing.”
Northern Colorado hits the road again for their next match at South Georgia Tormenta FC on June 17, kickoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Mountain time.
