WINDSOR, Colo. — Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC head coach Éamon Zayed has been named USL League One Coach of the Month for the month of May.
It is the first Coach of the Month award for Zayed and the first time in club history Hailstorm FC have a recipient of a USL League One monthly award. He is also the first former USL League One player to be named Coach of the Month.
Northern Colorado played three matches in May, winning all of them while scoring eight goals and conceding just two.
“They should just name it team of the month because that’s what it is. It’s the team,” Zayed said.
The three wins in May included a 4-1 triumph over Central Valley Fuego FC in the club’s first-ever match at Future Legends Field.
“We’ve come so far. I came here in August 2021 and this was nothing but a construction site,” Zayed said after the win over Fuego.
Despite being pleased with the award, Zayed said he is a bit wary, seeing as how both previous Coach of the Month winners this season saw their teams lose a pair of matches in the subsequent month.
“This Coach of the Month, I don’t know what it is about USL League One, but it seems to be a curse and I’m hoping to break that curse,” Zayed said.
So far, Zayed and Hailstorm FC are unbeaten in three matches in June and will look to continue that run Saturday when they take on South Georgia Tormenta FC in Statesboro, Ga. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Mountain time.
