WINDSOR, Colo. — Riding a club-record six game unbeaten run, Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC will travel to take on South Georgia Tormenta FC for the second time in 2023.
Hailstorm won the first matchup against Tormenta this season 3-0 behind goals from Rob Cornwall, Nortei Nortey, and Marky Hernández.
“It’s a completely different game this time,” Hailstorm FC head coach Éamon Zayed said. “They have, for me, their best player, one of the best players in the league Kazaiah Sterling back.”
Sterling has scored in each of Tormenta’s last two matches, both 1-1 draws. Tormenta have drawn each of their last three matches 1-1 and currently sit seventh in the USL League One table with 15 points.
With Sterling having played just four times this season, Tormenta’s leading scorer is newcomer Jackson Khoury, who has scored three goals and added two assists in 2023.
Sterling, Khoury, and the rest of the Tormenta attack will be up against a Hailstorm defense that has recorded back-to-back clean sheets and placed three players in the USL League One Team of the Week last week.
Hailstorm and Tormenta are scheduled to kick off at 5:30 p.m. Mountain time Saturday in Statesboro Ga. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
