WINDSOR, Colo. — Riding a six-match unbeaten streak, Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC will welcome Central Valley Fuego FC to Future Legends Field for the second time this season on Saturday.
Hailstorm opened their home schedule against Fuego on May 27, taking a 4-0 lead at halftime en route to a 4-1 win.
Jackson Dietrich and Billy King opened the scoring for Hailstorm FC in the first matchup with Fuego before a brace from USL League One Golden Boot leader Trevor Amann put the match out of reach. Fuego did deny the hosts a clean sheet when Villyan Bijev scored a penalty in the 88th minute.
“Last year we beat Fuego at home 4-1. Very, very, very similar game to the one we played against them a month ago and then they came here and beat us 1-0,” Hailstorm FC head coach Éamon Zayed said.
Each team has played three times since their meeting in May, with Hailstorm beating Richmond and picking up draws against Lexington SC and One Knoxville SC and Fuego getting a win against Forward Madison before dropping matches against Richmond and Greenville.
Hailstorm enter the match with the stingiest defense in USL League One, having conceded just seven goals in 10 matches so far this season. Keeper Lalo Delgado also leads the league’s Golden Glove race.
“We’re ready to, most importantly get a result,” Delgado said. “If the clean sheets come, they’ll come. That’s our standard at the end of the day, but we’re more focused on the win.”
Hailstorm and Fuego kick off at 7 p.m. Mountain time Saturday at Future Legends Field.
