WINDSOR, Colo. — It was a night of lucky sevens for Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC as they extended their unbeaten run to seven games and kept their seventh clean sheet of the season with a 1-0 win over Central Valley Fuego FC.
“The wins matter right now,” Hailstorm keeper Lalo Delgado said. “Yeah, we have games in hand, but we have to make those count.”
The only goal of the match came in the 38th minute when Hailstorm forward Billy King dribbled past multiple Fuego defenders fired past keeper Ofek Antman from the right side of the area for his fourth goal of the season.
“I received the ball, had some space, cut in on my left foot and smashed it across the goal,” King said.
King’s goal stood up thanks to a strong Hailstorm defense that limited Fuego to just one shot on target and Delgado, who made a fine save to keep that shot out of his goal.
“When that ball leaves his foot and it’s going in the top corner, I still feel Lalo’s gonna save it,” Hailstorm FC head coach Éamon Zayed said.
Delgado and Hailstorm’s seven clean sheets this season have already surpassed the club’s total of five from the whole 2022 season, something Zayed said is a sign of the progress the club has made.
“That’s unreal,” Zayed said. “In any league that’s unbelievable to have seven clean sheets in 11 games.”
Hailstorm will now have 10 days off before being back in action against Charlotte Independence on the 4th of July. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Future Legends Field.
