WINDSOR, Colo. — With a win against One Knoxville SC on Tuesday, Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC can find themselves somewhere they have never been before — the top of the USL League One table.
Just two points behind league-leading Forward Madison and playing the lone midweek game, Hailstorm will be top of the league with a victory and still have at least a game in hand on the entire league.
“We’ve got four games in 12 days, but Knoxville is all we’re thinking about now,” Hailstorm goalkeeper Lalo Delgado said.
This will be the third and final regular season matchup between Hailstorm FC and Knoxville this season. Northern Colorado is unbeaten against One Knox so far in 2023, taking a 2-1 victory in Knoxville on May 13 and a 0-0 draw on June 10 at Future Legends Field.
One big change from the previous two matchups will be in goal for Knoxville, with starter Sean Lewis likely out after picking up a knock Saturday against North Carolina and 26-year-old Peter Swinkels in line for his professional debut after playing with Knoxville at the semi-pro level in USL League Two last season.
If he is called into action, Swinkels will have the task of stopping USL League One’s Golden Boot leader Trevor Amann, who with 11 goals this season needs just one goal to set Hailstorm FC’s single-season record.
Hailstorm and Knoxville are scheduled to kick off at 5:30 p.m. Mountain time Tuesday at Regal Stadium in Knoxville. The match will be streamed live on ESPN+.
“Knox was a great team, especially at home. We’re going to be at it, ready to go, and hopefully get the three points,” Hailstorm midfielder Arthur Rogers said.
