WINDSOR, Colo. — Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC extended their unbeaten streak to 11 with a 2-0 win over Union Omaha on Saturday.
The win also moved Hailstorm three points clear at the top of the USL League One table.
“This team, we’re here to stay, and we’re only going to get better,” Hailstorm FC head coach Éamon Zayed said.
After a quiet start from both sides, Hailstorm forward Trevor Amann started the scoring in the 39th minute with a strike from long range for the USL League One Golden Boot leader’s 13th goal of the season. The goal gave the hosts a 1-0 lead at halftime.
“We won the ball in the middle of the field and there was nobody there,” Amann said. “I figured I would turn and have a strike and it went in.”
Hailstorm FC doubled their lead in the 73rd minute with Amann scoring from much shorter range this time as he tapped in a floated ball from Billy King for his second brace in as many matches against the Owls this season.
“I like scoring goals, I’ll leave it at that,” Amann said.
Hailstorm made the 2-0 lead stand up despite losing midfielder Enock Kwakwa to a second yellow card in the 80th minute. It was their eighth clean sheet of the season.
“The win, that’s what we’re most happy about,” Hailstorm goalkeeper Lalo Delgado said.
The win kept Hailstorm unbeaten at Future Legends Field, with five wins in six games on their home turf. They will return to action at Future Legends Field on July 22 against the Richmond Kickers. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Mountain time.
“We have a phenomenal home record, and we want to continue it,” Zayed said.
