WINDSOR, Colo. — In a game marred by a pair of weather delays before the kickoff of each half, Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC ended their four-match losing streak with a 0-0 draw against Greenville Triumph SC.
“It was a very stop-start game,” Hailstorm defender Arthur Rogers said. “It felt like the game went on for hours and hours. That’s not what you want but Mother Nature, you can’t control it.”
With the draw, Hailstorm kept their ninth clean sheet of the season, tied for best in USL League One. It was their first clean sheet since a 2-0 win over Union Omaha on July 15.
“I love clean sheets, but I would have been fine giving up three goals if it meant we won,” Hailstorm goalkeeper Lalo Delgado said.
There was a lack of real scoring opportunities for both teams, as they combined for just six shots on target, putting three each on frame.
“I’ll be honest, it was a poor game of football from both sides,” Hailstorm FC head coach Éamon Zayed said.
The draw came in the first of three matches in eight days for Northern Colorado who now head on the road to face South Georgia Tormenta FC and North Carolina FC next week.
“It’s a welcome clean sheet,” Zayed said. “Now we’re going on the road and if we want to get anything out of the Tormenta and North Carolina games we’re going to have to keep clean sheets.”
Hailstorm FC starts the road trip at South Georgia Tormenta FC on Wednesday. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. Mountain time and fans can watch the match on ESPN+.
