WINDSOR, Colo. — Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC head coach Éamon Zayed has been named USL League One Coach of the Month for the month of September.
It is Zayed’s second coach of the month award this season, with the Hailstorm boss having also taken home the honor in May. Zayed is the fourth coach to win USL League One Coach of the Month twice in the same season, with the previous three all having gone on to claim the championship that year.
Hailstorm played seven matches in September, winning five, drawing one, and losing one to take 16 points from a possible 21. During the month they scored 13 goals, conceded just seven, and kept three clean sheets.
“Most points in a month in Hailstorm history, it’s excellent,” Zayed said.
Zayed singled out the final match of the month, a 2-0 win over Greenville Triumph SC, as the highlight of the month. The win came on the heels of Hailstorm’s only loss of the month, a 2-0 defeat against North Carolina FC.
“I think that was the highlight because when you lose you look for that bounce-back ability and a reaction, and we got that in that game,” Zayed said.
Hailstorm still have a chance to claim the USL League One Players’ Shield in their final match of the regular season this Saturday against Chattanooga Red Wolves SC at Future Legends Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
