WINDSOR, Colo. — Three Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC players along with head coach Éamon Zayed have been named finalists for USL League One awards for 2023.
Zayed is a finalist for the USL League One Coach of the Year award after leading Hailstorm to a third-place finish in the regular season and the club’s first-ever playoff win in its second year of existence. He won the league’s Coach of the Month honors in both May and September, the fourth coach in league history to earn that honor twice in a single season. The other finalists are Union Omaha’s Dominic Casciato and North Carolina FC’s John Bradford.
Hailstorm goalkeeper Lalo Delgado is a finalist for the league’s Goalkeeper of the Year in his first season with the club. Delgado tied a USL League One record with 13 clean sheets this season and had four penalty saves, which was a league record not only for a single season, but for a career. He is up against Charlotte’s Austin Pack and One Knoxville’s Sean Lewis for the award.
For the second straight season, Hailstorm defender Arthur Rogers is a finalist for both Defender of the Year, which he won in 2022, and the USL League One Player of the Year award. In 2023 Rogers broke his own single-season record for chances created with 88 and tied the league’s single-season record with 11 assists, earning him the league’s Golden Playmaker award.
Rogers was a contributor defensively as well, as he was among Hailstorm’s team leaders in clearances (51), interceptions (26), and tackles won (42).
Hailstorm forward Trevor Amann is also a USL League One Player of the Year finalist after winning the league’s Golden Boot with 23 regular season goals, a tally that also broke the USL League One single-season record, which was previously 18 by Richmond’s Emiliano Terzaghi in 2021.
The only non-hailstorm finalist for Player of the Year is NCFC forward Oalex Anderson.
The USL League One award winners will be announced next week, starting on November 7.
