WINDSOR, Colo. — Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC took home a 4-1 win over a squad from the Pro Soccer Consulting Combine in the club’s first preseason match of 2024 on Sunday.
“The most important thing today was getting 45 minutes each under our belts and coming out of it unscathed, injury free,” Hailstorm FC head coach Éamon Zayed said.
PSC XI actually got on the board first with a ball over the top which was put past Hailstorm goalkeeper Russell Shealy in the 25th minute, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead.
It took Hailstorm just eight minutes to respond when Lucky Opara’s cross found a trialist, who scored the equalizer to make it 1-1 at halftime.
After making eight halftime substitutions, it did not take long for Hailstorm to grab the lead after the break. Forward Jake Keegan was pulled down in the penalty area in the 48th minute and Marky Hernández converted from the spot to give Hailstorm a 2-1 lead.
The Hailstorm lead was extended in the 54th minute when midfielder Danny Robles scored direct from a free kick to make it 3-1 and Keegan capped the scoring by getting on the end of a cross at the back post in the 75th minute.
Hailstorm will continue their preseason Friday against Peak XI.
