WINDSOR, Colo. — Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC will look to carry their winning ways from the U.S. Open Cup into USL League One play when they travel to take on Greenville Triumph SC on Saturday.
Hailstorm won in dramatic fashion in midweek, taking down Colorado Rapids 2 in the Second Round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, 3-2 after extra time, thanks to a David Garcia winner in the 121st minute.
“Hopefully it’ll do us good,” Hailstorm FC head coach Éamon Zayed said after the win Wednesday. “We have a game Saturday and hopefully we’ll see the benefits.”
Greenville also won in midweek, eliminating fellow USL League One side One Knoxville SC from the Open Cup, also 3-2 after extra time, on Wednesday.
Hailstorm have emerged victorious in each of their last two trips to Greenville by identical 2-0 scorelines. Last season’s 2-0 win came via a Trevor Amann brace.
The match at Greenville kicks off at 5 p.m. Mountain Time on Saturday and can be streamed live on ESPN+.
