WINDSOR, Colo. — After their 2-2 draw and penalty shootout loss against Union Omaha earlier this month, Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC will continue USL Jägermeister Cup play Saturday against One Knoxville SC.
The match is one of two group play matches for Hailstorm that is not against another team from the West Group. They will also play Charlotte Independence in group play on May 25 at 4Rivers Equipment Stadium.
Knoxville are currently tied atop the Central Group after opening their Jägermeister Cup campaign with a 1-0 win over Chattanooga Red Wolves SC.
“I feel like this year they’ve definitely stepped it up a level and become a lot more consistent,” Hailstorm head coach Éamon Zayed said.
Hailstorm have earned draws in each of their last two matches, but have seen an uptick in performance with 16 shots on target in the last two compared to just seven in their first three league matches.
“We can feel the tide turning,” Hailstorm defender Johnny Fenwick said. “We feel like we’re working hard every week and performances are getting better. “We’re obviously just missing those three points.”
Zayed also said he saw improvements in the last two matches, and that the team is close to where they want to be.
“The margins in this league are very fine, very thin,” Zayed said. “We’re almost where we want to be in terms of turning those results into wins.”
Hailstorm and Knoxville kick off at 3 p.m. Saturday and the match will be streamed live on ESPN+.
