WINDSOR, Colo — For the first time this season, Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC will welcome Union Omaha to Windsor as they battle for the top of the group in the USL Jägermeister Cup under the Friday night lights at 4Rivers Equipment Stadium.
Hailstorm sit atop their group with 12 points from five USL Jägermeister Cup matches played, while Omaha are in second with 10 points from five matches played.
“I think the winners of this game will top the group,” Hailstorm FC head coach Éamon Zayed said. “I respect that there’s two games left, but if we beat Omaha tomorrow I think some beating to knock us off the top of the group and I think if they beat us, they’re going to go on and win it.”
This will be the third overall meeting between Hailstorm and Omaha. The teams drew, 2-2, in their USL Jägermeister Cup match in Omaha, with Omaha winning the penalty shootout. Hailstorm emerged victorious when the teams met in a league match in Omaha, taking home a 2-1 win thanks to goals from Billy King and Bruno Rendon.
“We’ve beat them once, but it’ll be a tough game,” Zayed said.
Zayed specifically cited the return of Omaha forward Steevan Dos Santos, who is tied for second on the club with six goals this season but missed both matches against Hailstorm this season.
Kickoff of this key USL Jägermeister Cup match is set for 7 p.m.
