WINDSOR, Colo. — After a 2-0 win over Union Omaha on Friday that strengthened their spot on top of the West Group, four Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC players were named in the USL Jägermeister Cup Team of the Round for Round 6.
In addition to the four players honored, head coach Éamon Zayed was named Coach of the Round for the second time this season.
Goalscorers Billy King and Brecc Evans earned spots in the Team of the Round, King for the second time this season, Evans for the first. Defenders Lucky Opara and Haruki Yamazaki were also named in the Team of the Round, both for the second time.
King created a pair of chances and won three duels on Friday, on top of opening the scoring in the ninth minute with his second goal of the season. Both of his goals this season have opened the scoring in cup matches against Union Omaha.
Evans scored his first goal of the season in the 69th minute on Friday, and the center back added three aerial duel wins and seven clearances to his standout performance, helping Hailstorm to their third clean sheet of the season.
Opara and Yamazaki each created a pair of chances in Friday’s win, with Opara contributing three clearances and credited with the assist on Evans’ goal. Yamazaki won five tackles and 13 duels, while also drawing five Omaha fouls.
Hailstorm will return to USL League One play this Saturday at Forward Madison FC. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. Mountain time and the match can be streamed live on ESPN+.
