WINDSOR, Colo. — With a chance to score a top-four finish in USL League One, and therefore at least one home match in the playoffs, Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC will welcome Spokane Velocity FC to 4Rivers Equipment Stadium on Saturday.
A Hailstorm win paired with either Greenville Triumph SC or One Knoxville SC dropping points would mean a playoff match in Windsor on November 2. Wins in their final two matches would secure Hailstorm the second seed in the USL League One playoffs, as well.
“If we win our final two games of the season, we’ll finish in second place. That’s the only thing that’s on my mind and the players’ minds,” Hailstorm head coach Eamon Zayed said.
The first hurdle for Hailstorm to overcome is a Spokane team that has lost four matches in a row and has scored just twice in its last five contests. Despite their recent struggles, Zayed said he expects a tough match on Saturday.
“Yes, they’ve had a dip recently but they’ve been impressive this season, qualified for the playoffs,” Zayed said.
This will be the fourth meeting between the two clubs this season, with Hailstorm having won two of the first three, both by a 3-1 scoreline. Ethan Hoard and Bruno Rendon have led the way for Hailstorm against Spokane, with a pair of goals each.
Hailstorm and Spokane face off in their late-season showdown at 7 p.m. Saturday at 4Rivers Equipment Stadium.
