WINDSOR, Colo. — One goal was all it took as Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC won their fourth straight match in USL League One play and clinched a home playoff game with a 1-0 win over Spokane Velocity FC on Saturday at 4Rivers Equipment Stadium.
“I feel like we’ve been peaking since June,” Hailstorm head coach Eamon Zayed said. “We went unbeaten in June, unbeaten in August, and October has been excellent so far.”
Jake Keegan scored the 30th USL League One goal of his career and his second of the season in the 32nd minute to provide Hailstorm all the offense they needed.
“It was great to be able to contribute today and score the winner,” Keegan said.
Hailstorm were able to make Keegan’s goal stand up by keeping their third clean sheet in the last four matches. They have conceded just twice in their last six matches in all competitions.
“This is the standard we want,” Hailstorm goalkeeper Lalo Delgado said. “We’ve got to keep going. We put in a lot of work during the week and it’s great to see it pay off on Saturday.”
Hailstorm will now prepare for their final match of the regular season, a showdown with Forward Madison FC next Saturday at 4Rivers Equipment Stadium that would see a win secure Hailstorm the second seed in the USL League One playoffs.
“I think the guys deserve the No. 2 seed, I really do. The way we’re playing, I think we deserve it,” Zayed said.
