WINDSOR, Colo. — Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC’s 2024 season came to an abrupt end on Saturday night with a 3-0 loss to Spokane Velocity FC in the USL League One quarterfinals.
It was the first three-goal home loss in club history and only the second loss by more than one goal for Hailstorm this seaspn.
“Playoff football is about moments, we played our worst game of the year, and that’s it, you go home,” Hailstorm head coach Éamon Zayed said.
Hailstorm managed to generate nine shots, three of them on target, in the first half, but could not find the breakthrough as the teams went into the break with the scoreless tie intact.
It all came unraveled for Hailstorm in the second half, with Spokane scoring all three goals in a span of 15 minutes.
Despite coming up short in the playoffs, the 2024 season was an historic one for Hailstorm, as they won the first silverware in club history, lifting the inaugural USL Jägermeister Cup.
