WASHINGTON, Mich. — A pair of second half goals, including a penalty in the 97th minute, condemned Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC to a 2-1 defeat against Capo FC in a NISA Pro Cup Group Stage match Wednesday.
Hailstorm started fast, scoring in the first minute as Aaron Russ found the end of a Travis Ward cross at the back post and put it past the Capo keeper to give NoCo a very early 1-0 lead.
Despite chances for both teams, Hailstorm held their 1-0 advantage as the match hit halftime.
Capo found their equalizer in the 62nd minute with a header from a corner that beat Hailstorm keeper Brady Rimple, making it 1-1 with just less than a half hour to play.
The Capo winner came via a penalty in the 97th minute, giving Hailstorm no time to fight back from the 2-1 deficit, a scoreline that ultimately became the final.
Hailstorm will look to bounce back and secure advancement to the NISA Pro Cup Semifinals when they take on Sin City FC in their final group stage match at 12:30 p.m. Mountain time on Friday.
