WASHINGTON, Mich. — Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC opened the 2025 NISA Pro Cup with a 4-0 win over Modesto City FC in a match that was abandoned at halftime.
Modesto City FC began the match with nine men and after a first half injury elected not to continue after halftime with just eight fully healthy players. Hailstorm were awarded the win by the halftime score of 4-0.
The scoring in the first half was opened by Hailstorm striker Bamidele Esan, who received the ball at the top of the penalty area in the 26th minute and fired past the Modesto City keeper to take the 1-0 lead.
Esan doubled the lead seven minutes later, smashing home from close range after a cross was headed down by Nathan Yared onto his waiting right foot.
Hailstorm made it 3-0 in the 37th minute, as Yared earned his second assist of the half with a cross from the right flank that was headed in by Travis Ward.
The scoring was wrapped up in the 44th minute when Hailstorm midfielder Carlos Valenzuela beat the Modesto City keeper from long range to make it 4-0 to NoCo.
Hailstorm sit on top of Group B in the NISA Pro Cup after the victory, and will continue group play against Capo FC, who drew their opening match against Sin City FC, at 10 a.m. Mountain time on Wednesday.
