WASHINGTON, Mich. — Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC finds themselves in a must-win situation as they take on Sin City FC Friday in the final group stage match of the NISA Pro Cup.
Capo FC has already qualified for the semifinals, and Hailstorm and Sin City will be battling it out for the second qualifying spot from Group B.
Both Hailstorm and Sin City have victories over Modesto City FC in group play, with Hailstorm taking a 4-0 win on Monday in a match that was abandoned at halftime due to a lack of Modesto City players available. Sin City scored a 12-1 victory over Modesto City on Wednesday in a match that went the full 90 minutes.
Northern Colorado finds itself in the must-win situation because they were unable to match Sin City’s result against group leaders Capo FC, with a 97th minute penalty resigning them to a 2-1 defeat on Wednesday. Sin City faced Capo on Monday and managed a 1-1 draw, though they fell in the ensuing penalty shootout, putting them a point ahead of Hailstorm heading into Friday’s matchup.
Key for Hailstorm on Friday will be winger Travis Ward, who assisted Aaron Russ’ goal in the first minute against Capo FC after scoring a goal of his own against Modesto City on Monday. Striker Bamidele Esan also netted a brace for Hailstorm against Modesto City.
On the other side, the man to watch for Sin City FC will be striker Miguel Higareda, who scored a hat trick in the win over Modesto City on Wednesday.
